Surfsand Resort sweetens Spring arrival by launching daily hunts for hand-crafted glass sand dollars.

A getaway to the Oregon coast is always sweet, but Surfsand Resort is making it sweeter for guests of Surfsand Resort can hone their beachcombing skills by seeking a one-of-a-kind, hand-made glass sand dollar hidden on the property. The lucky finder of each day’s SurfSandollar can keep their keepsake and receive two free desserts from Wayfarer Restaurant & Lounge, the resort's signature dining spot.

Anyone staying at the resort or visiting Cannon Beach is welcome to participate in the daily SurfSandollar hunts. A sample is displayed at the front desk to provide seekers with inspiration and an example of what to look for. Each day, a new glass sand dollar will be hidden on the property, either inside or outside, but never in the sand. The SurfSandollar will be in place by 6 a.m. The first person to find it can claim it as their own and take it to the Wayfarer Restaurant & Lounge to collect their prize.

Participants and lucky finders are encouraged to take pictures of their adventures and rewards to share on social media with the #SurfSandollar hashtag. Additional clues and insights to help locate the SurfSanddollar may also appear on the hotel’s social media channels.

Each SurfSandollar is a unique creation of the Thompson family of Bend, Oregon. Jeff Thompson has been working with the medium since 1997 and was later joined by his wife, Heather; they now work alongside their son, Dale. Their studio, Thompson Studio Glass, is known for its sea life sculptures, as well as contemporary vases and large-scale installations, and is represented in art galleries around the U.S.

Only 150 SurfSandollars will be available, and hunts will continue throughout the summer. Treasure hunters may seek the prize as often as they like, but guests may only claim one glass sand dollar per booking this season. This restriction aims to give as many people as possible the chance to enjoy the rewards. Additionally, winners do not need to purchase anything from the Wayfarer Restaurant & Lounge to receive the dessert prize, which winners may enjoy in the restaurant or take to go.
